Mulline Portalington Pinot Noir 2023
$59.00
100% NV6 clone planted in the Nurringa Park vineyard, a little further back from the ocean than the Chardonnay block but still heavily maritime influenced. Sandy loam, dark clay and Limestone. 50% whole-bunch ferment then pressed off to barrel, 30% new oak, 9 months elevage. Ben points out that this site gives more density, opposite to what it gives the Chardonnay block.
“A single vineyard located right on the water in Port Arlington. All 1998-planted MV6 clones; 50% whole bunches, 25% new oak barriques. A deep, bright ruby. Opulent with dark cherries, Chinese five-spice and violets. This has an immediate appeal with its rounded, silken textured palate. Equally, it’s also well structured and while really quite delicious now, it will still reward those with some tucked away six to eight years from now.” – 95 Points – Philip Rich Halliday, Wine Companion
“Quite dark and youthful in the glass. Exotic aromas of under-brush, sap, Asian spice, dark cherry, menthol and a bunchy lift. Fleshy, powerful and blue fruit driven on the palate. There’s lovely fleshiness, texture and purity of pinot noir here. There’s also an earthiness and a brambly wildness about the flavours. The tannins are firm and shapely and the acidity delivers plenty of ping.” – 95 Points The Real Review
