Shut the Gate

Shut the Gate winery is the product of passion from Richard Woods and Rasa Fabian. Both from the corporate world they spent much time in Clare Valley/Watervale away from the desk working at Crabtree wines for 5 years until starting their own project Shut the Gate in 2013. A small batch producer specialising in classic Australian varieties and Italian varieties from Clare Valley, Tumbarumba and the Hilltops regions. The have two wonderful cellar doors in the heart of Watervale and the Snowy Mountains. They have been named a 5 star Halliday winery for a number of years, and hit top spot in the top 100 Hottest for their Watervale Riesling.

Richard and Rasa both run the business in the Clare Valley and take care in visiting the local winemakers and the sites from which they source on a regular basis to keep an eye on their wines through their development. It’s very much a passion project as well as a business. The aim being to make delicious, affordable, sustainable and approachable wines across different sites to explore the wonderful variation our countries wine regions have to offer. Their business contacts throughout the years have given them access now through Shut the Gate to some of the better sites in SA. Giving them access to some fantastic old vine spots that deliver for us year after year.
