Mulline Single Vineyard Portarlington Pinot Noir 2025
$65.00
From the Nurringa Park Vineyard in Portarlington, just inland from Mulline’s Chardonnay block but firmly under maritime influence. Planted in 1994 to MV6 clone on volcanic soils, the site produces small, thick-skinned bunches that Ben describes as “fruit hand grenades.” The result is a deeply coloured, structured Pinot Noir that makes no apologies for its intensity.
Hand-picked and fermented in parcels with wild yeasts in open vats, twice-daily punch downs and 8 to 10 days on skins. Thirty percent whole bunch inclusion, 30% new French oak, pressed to oak for natural malolactic fermentation.
Dark cherry, red rose, potpourri and subtle spice on the nose. Compact and concentrated on the palate, yet light on its feet, with tannins in perfect harmony with the fruit. Built to develop beautifully over the next eight to ten years.
“A gorgeous, complex and pure-fruited bouquet of dark cherry, red rose, a hint of potpourri and subtle spice. This has real energy on the palate…” 97+ pts, Halliday Wine Companion
