Mewstone Pinot Noir 2025

$77.00

From around 1.8 hectares of estate vines on the D’Entrecasteaux Channel, planted across two parcels in 2011 and 2018 over ten different clones on predominantly duplex soils formed on Jurassic dolerite. A long, cool ripening season, high UV reflected off the water and naturally low yields combine to produce fruit with small berries and a high skin to juice ratio, giving the wine its distinctive tannin structure.

Naturally fermented with an average 15% whole bunch across the blend, varying between 0 and 45% across individual ferments. Gentle extraction with minimal pump-overs, 21 days on skins, then ten months in French oak with 40% new. Bottled unfined.

In Jonny’s own words, “”partly due to low yields and partly due to that high UV from the reflection off the water, and that long, long, long ripening season, structurally we can get a lot of tannin… which I think is a big part of what the Pinot looks like.
