Italo Cescon Madre 2022

Named for Italo’s wife Chiara, Madre means mother, and there is something fitting about that name landing on the most personal wine in the Cescon range. One hundred percent Manzoni Bianco, organically grown across two historic family vineyards in Fagarè and San Polo di Piave, in the heart of Treviso.

Hand-harvested in early September with careful bunch selection, then whole bunch pressed and slowly fermented on gross lees. The wine spends time in concrete before moving to French oak, resting on fine lees until the following March, then a further full year in bottle before it is ever released.

Bright straw with greenish highlights, this is a generous and distinctive white. Yellow peach, acacia and lime peel open things up, with herbs and a gentle salinity coming through as the wine breathes. The palate is vivid and soft at once, fresh acidity wrapped in real texture and length.

A wine that has earned its reputation. Tre Bicchieri from Gambero Rosso every year from 2019 to 2025.
