Francois Lumpp Givry Rouge 1er Cru Petit Marole 2023
$141.00
Located in the northern part of the Givry appellation, Petit Marole is one of the key Premier Cru sites farmed by François Lumpp. The domaine owns 0.76 hectares here, planted to Pinot Noir with an average vine age of around 35 years. The soils are a distinctive mix of limestone and pale clay, often described by the family as “white clay”, which gives the wine both generosity and structure.
The fruit is fully destemmed and fermented in tank, then aged for 12 months in French oak (around 70% new) before a short resting period in tank prior to bottling. Among Lumpp’s Premier Crus, Petit Marole is typically the earliest to show its charm, combining depth with approachability.
The 2023 reveals ripe plum, red and dark berries with subtle earthy notes, supported by fine tannins and a layered, structured finish. Generous yet composed, it offers classic Côte Chalonnaise character with excellent ageing potential.
“There is a liqueur-like aspect to the ripe yet fresh aromas of plum, red and dark berries… fine richness and volume… a firm, serious and built-to-age finale.”
