Eleni & Edouard Vocoret Chablis Le Bas de Chapelot 2021
$129.00
Le Bas translates to below and this plot borders with the bottom of the 1er Cru of Chapelot, part of the Montee de Tonnerre hill, just a few yards away to the north sits Le Clos Grand Cru. The quality of this spot as a ‘village wine’ is outstanding. South East exposition. Deeper soil than the 1er Cru of Chapelot so gives more richness (Clay, Limestone, and Kimmeridgian). 3.2 ha, 40 years old. Wild Fermented in steel then elevage in barrel for 12 months of 6 to 30 year old barriques.
“A slightly riper nose combines notes of apple, pear, shellfish and quinine. There is very good richness to the generously proportioned medium-bodied flavors that also possess fine underlying tension that carries over to the clean, dry and lingering finale. This too is a really lovely villages that could be approached young”- Outstanding Top Value – Burghound
“The 2021 Chablis Le Bas de Chapelot comes across quite closed on the nose, though Edouard Vocoret mentioned how this cuvée has closed down at the time of my visit. The palate is complex with touches of apricot and white peach, plenty of minerals and flint, focused with a long tail on the finish. This is apparently mercurial during its barrel maturation but this bodes well.” – 92-94 pts – Neal Martin – Vinous
