Brash Higgins Shiraz 2021
$45.00
Brash’s 2021 SHZ is a deep, brooding Shiraz from the organically farmed Omensetter Vineyard—25-year-old vines planted on red clay over limestone, giving the wine its signature depth and rustic flair.
Fermented wild with 25% whole bunches and left on skins for 3 weeks, the wine was basket pressed and aged for 20 months in French hogsheads (15% new). The result is a structured, intensely savoury red that avoids the usual sweet-fruited Shiraz tropes.
Expect black plum, blood orange and paprika, woven through with earth, crushed herbs and smoky spice. There’s grip and grit here—fine tannins and a meaty, elemental quality that speaks of site and hands-off winemaking.
“A good douse of whole-bunch spice, with a wee dab of rusticity… Fine tannins, a gritty carapace lathered with spice.” – Ned Goodwin MW – James Suckling
