Valle Reale was founded in 2000 by the The Pizzolo family, with a keen focus to produce predominantly organic wines from the Abruzzo region, a mountainous national park with a mixed terrior of limestone, clay and sand and great day night temperature variations due to the altitude. Their full range of wines are great however we were particularly interested in the Passi Reale wines.
Both the Passi Reale wines are made using the Appassimento technique. Appassimento refers to drying grapes and comes from one of the most ancient methods used to make wine. Passi Reale is made drying the grapes on the plants first, for about two months, and then completing the process in the cellar with crates.
