“A good grape is Grüner Veltliner. I often think of it as being a halfway house on the path from Riesling to Chardonnay. Or in the words of The Proclaimers “I’m on my way from misery to happiness today.” Ah-hah. It has that signature radish and white pepper top note over apple and peach, some spicy biscuit and hazelnut. Light bodied, plenty of spice and a twist of pink grapefruit keeping it fresh and cool, fine acidity and a subtle dusty/white pepper texture, apple drizzled with lemon on the finish, which is fairly long, leaving spice and cool acidity in its wake. It’s subtle, some might think a little dilute, but I think transparent and clear. Needs another year in bottle to start showing its best side, I reckon. Good Grüner” – Gary Walsh
