BELLWETHER – COONAWARRA, TAMAR VALLEY + WRATTONBULLY

Australian Winemaker of the year – Australian society of Viticulture and Oenology.

Sue Bell created Bellwether, based at the 1868 Glen Roy Shearing Shed in Coonawarra. She has worked for some of the smallest and biggest wine companies in the world, with experience in most SA regions, Vic, NSW, Tasmania and vintages in California and Bordeaux, giving her an amazing mental dictionary of both modern techniques and viticulture. Working at both Penfolds and Hardy’s in her earlier career she understands the importance of establishing great relationships with growers.

She was dux of the prestigious Len Evans Tutorial showing her palate is as keen as her wine making.

Championing Chardonnay from Tamar Valley in Tasmania and Cabernet Sauvignon from Coonawarra, her home region. Bellwether’s signature wines are always released with age, a blessing in an era of drinking wines so young. The Ant Series is her expression of varieties in regions she believes either champion sustainability (Nero from Riverland is an example) or are unsung heroes, such as Wrattonbully.
