Prophet's Rock
Described by Jancis Robinson as “really much more Burgundian than New Zealand,” Prophet’s Rock is one of Central Otago’s most compelling estates.
Established in 1999 in Bendigo, within the dramatic landscape of the Cromwell Basin, the vineyards sit on rare pedogenic limestone soils, a geological feature found in very few places worldwide. This distinctive terroir lends the wines their hallmark tension, structure and mineral drive.
Winemaker and part-owner Paul Pujol has shaped the estate’s refined, Old World sensibility since 2005. With experience at Kuentz-Bas in Alsace and Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé in Burgundy, he brings a deep understanding of aromatic precision and Pinot Noir finesse.
Wild fermentations, low yields and minimal intervention define the approach. Extended lees ageing for Pinot Gris and careful élevage for Pinot Noir ensure wines of texture, purity and quiet power. Prophet’s Rock delivers a distinctly Central Otago expression with unmistakable Burgundian poise.
