L.A.S. Vino
Luck. Art. Science. Nic Peterkin built L.A.S. Vino around all three, and uses each one as permission to do something most winemakers wouldn’t dare.
The name says it all. The art of coaxing something extraordinary from water and sunlight. The luck of what a vintage gives you, and what it takes away. And science as the framework that lets him break every rule with complete intention. Seawater ferments, skin contact that stretches into the hundreds of days, wild yeast sourced from the native flora of Margaret River. These aren’t experiments for the sake of it, they’re the result of someone who understands the craft deeply enough to push past it.
If the name Peterkin rings a bell, it should. Nic’s father is Dr Mike Peterkin, the founder of Pierro. But where Pierro is one of Margaret River’s most revered and classical estates, L.A.S. Vino is Nic’s own language entirely. Same obsessive attention to detail, completely different conversation.
Everything is hand-picked, hand-sorted, hand-stirred. The packaging is as considered as what’s inside the bottle. And the wines themselves sit somewhere between classicism and the completely unexpected, always a strong sense of place, always Margaret River underneath, but consistently pulling flavours and experiences out of the glass that you didn’t see coming.
For the drinker who wants to be surprised, and knows enough to appreciate why.
