CHABLIS 1ER CRU 2019
Bottle Shot

This Chablis 1er Cru is a blend of selected Premiers Crus, predominantly from the 1er Cru of Vaucoupin on the ‘right bank’, the most southerly of 1er Cru’s on this side of the Serein river and Vosgros + Vauligeneau, almost directly opposite Vaucoupin on the left side. Average age of vineyards is 40 to 45 years old.

Whole bunch pressed into specially designed wider tanks to aid with settling the lees and reduces the amount of sulphur needed. Primary ferment takes place in tank then the wine goes through malolactic and it’s elevage for approximately 9 months in predominately tank on fine lees with 10% in 228ltr barrels, all seasoned oak.

Bottle Shot

Les Bouguerots (pronounced boo-ger-roll) is allowed to be labelled as a Grand Cru as it’s a named spot inside the boundaries of the larger GC Bougros. This smaller area faces due south on a very steep slope at the bottom near the river. 20 year old vines.

Whole bunch pressed to tank, racked off gross lees and put into barrel. Primary ferment takes place 100% in barrique all which are all seasoned, ranging from 1 to 7 years old, no new oak used. Aged for 9 months in barrel. Then, the barrels are blended and aged further on fine lees for about 7 months in tank.

PERNAND VERGELESSES 1ER VRU ‘EN CARADEUX’ 2019
Bottle Shot

The 1er Cru of En Caradeaux looks East South East, straight opposite the part of the Grand cru of Corton Charlemagne. Maison Champy own 0.93 hectares in this Cru of which they began farming organically since 2020 and is due for certification in 2023. Soil is a composition of Marl and Limestone. Head winemaker Dimitri commented that the soil is very similar to Chablis in this 1er Cru, producing a citrus and slight bitterness to the wine unlike the softer limestone styles of Puligny and Chassagne.

Whole-bunch pressed, settled in tank then wild fermented in 228ltr barriques of which 25% are new followed by 10 months aging. Certified organic from 2023.

“The complex nose of candied citrus, flint, hazelnut and toasty oak leads you into this impressively rich and concentrated dry white for Pernand-Vergelesses. Very focused, super-elegant finish that has so much life. Drink or hold” – 94 points – James Sucking

One of the most sought after 1er Cru’s of Puligny. The grower who they source the grapes from has vines situated on gently sloping easterly-facing vineyards at heights of between 230 and 390 metres above sea-level. The soil is a clayey and pebbly limestone, well-drained and quick to warm up.

Wild fermented in 228ltr barrels of which are 1 year old. 10 months in barrel, regular battonage during the aging periods.

All hand picked, 100% destemmed and fermented in a combination of open top tanks made from concrete or wood. All of the parcels are aged in barrel for 10 months, 10% new. The various vineyards are vinified separately then blended after the aging.

PENARD VERGELESSES ROUGE CLOS DE BULLY 2019
Bottle Shot

Clos de Bully is a Lieu Dit in the Northern part of the AOP which Champy share with one other owner. 40 year old vines, East south east facing Champy describe this site as being in a ‘cold corridor’, making it very important to keep the yields lower than 40 hl/ha or you simply don’t get the ripeness you need. This is exactly why we love this wine, it’s classic Burgundy, so fresh, like smelling fresh rhubarb with the leaves on.

50% wholebunch, 50% destemmed, with the whole clusters put in first so they are at the bottom of the tanks during ferment. Pressed off to 228 ltr barrels, 20% new for 12 months.
