Domaine François Lumpp

Update on estate by William Kelley – The Wine Advocate – visit in July 2022
“Last year, I sang the praises of Lumpp’s extraordinary 2019 collection, and the 2020s, a touch more concentrated, deeper-pitched and muscular, are a worthy follow up. Pierre and Anne-Cécile Lumpp have now taken the reins, and Anne-Cécile informed me that their response to this extreme vintage was to limit maximum fermentation temperature to 28 degrees Celsius (82 degrees Fahrenheit) and to pursue a longer élevage for the two reds that were the richest and ripest. Everything was picked by August 31, and the Lumpps are now experimenting with intra-row cover crops in some of their holdings”

Update on estate by Burghound – visit in October 2021
“François Lumpp, who began his career in 1977 without having inherited a domaine or vineyards, founded his own in 1991. However, some 30 years later he is progressively withdrawing from the day to day activities in favor of his children Pierre and Anne-Cécile. He did attend my annual tasting though and offered his impressions of the 2020 vintage, briefly noting that “the season was hot and dry and while we had good yields in chardonnay at around 50 hl/ha in chardonnay, those in pinot averaged only 30 hl/ha. Potential alcohols were strong for the reds at between 13.5 to 15% with an average of 14%. The whites were much more moderate at between 12.5 to 13%. I find the 2020 vintage to be excellent in white and the reds to be like a fresher version of 2019.” I agree with Lumpp as the whites are indeed lovely but the reds deserve your interest as well. Moreover, for those readers who enjoy cellaring their wines, I can confirm that Domaine Lumpp produces ageworthy reds”

“François Lumpp is the best producer in Givry, equally adept at producing stylish reds and whites. If François Lumpp were based in the Côte d’Or as opposed to Givry, his wines would sell at twice the price.” Bargain – Tim Aktin

“As the scores and commentaries confirm, the Lumpp wines offer excellent quality at very affordable prices. Moreover, for those readers who enjoy cellaring their wines, I can confirm that the Lumpp produces ageworthy reds” – Allen Meadows – Burghound

“Do not underrate these fantastic wines” – Neal Martin

“One Lumpp or two? My advice is to take two because this domaine has been producing exquisite Givry wine” – Neal Martin
