SAUMUR CHAMPIGNY VIEILLE VIGNES 2017
Bottle Shot

This wine….reminds me what is so great about marginal climate European reds. Roasted tomatoes was a tasting note that was called about by of our team when first tasting this post arrival and it’s just that, a mix of savoury and caramelised fruit with the touch of green leaf and pepper. Sourced from the oldest vines in the Domaine, 50 to 100 years old. Just a note here for the more studious of you that although the first vintage of the Domaine was in 1967 as they expanded vineyard holdings they were able to purchase older plots of Cabernet Franc.

The Domaine has been working organically since 2017 so this vintage albeit not certified was the start of that journey. Hand picked, sorted, destemmed and fermented in tank, approximately 20 to 30 days total maceration. Pressed to tank, elevage for 18 months. No oak.
