CROIX CANON BY CHATEAU CANON ST EMILION GRAND CRU 2017
Bottle shot
“Second wine of the highly regarded Chateau Canon. The grapes for this wine are specifically from a 11 hectare site, formerly Chateau Matras Grand Cru Classé and sandwiched between Chateau Canon and Chateau Angelus, made up of alluvium and erosion of the limestone plateau. No berry from the Canon terroir was downgraded to enter the composition of Croix Canon, it’s it’s own terroir.
Vinified using the same techniques as the 1st wine however the wine is made at La Chapelle de Mazerat, a 12th century building constructed at the request of Alienor d’Aquitaine right in the heart of these vineyards, renovated in 2015.
“Juicy and balanced with crushed berries and hints of spice and walnuts. Medium to full body. Extremely harmonious. Compressed and focused. A blend of 80% merlot and 20% cabernet franc. Second wine of Château Canon. Drink or hold.” – 93 pts – James Suckling
“Just as it was from barrel, the 2017 Croix Canon is fabulous. The Franc is especially showy today in the wine’s strong aromatic presence. Deep, fleshy and totally seductive, the 2017 is just fabulous. Black cherry, chocolate, spice and licorice build into the racy, voluptuous finish. Readers who can find the 2017 when it is released in another year or two should not hesitate, as it is truly delicious.” – 92 pts – Antonio Galloni – Vinous
