Boutinot have been curating some superb Cote de Rhone’s in recent years, in part due to their acquisition of their flagship winery based on the slopes of the Cairanne AOP in the southern Rhone. Elevage in tank Arc du Rhône is named after the classified group of villages which together line up to form a geographical arc across the valley of the southern Rhône known locally as the ‘arc of gold’. From a warm climate combined with high altitude, which results in wines with both concentrated fruit and refreshing acidity. Following extended lees ageing for a smooth texture, the wine underwent six months of oak contact to add complexity.

LES VOLETS PINOT NOIR 2020
Bottle Shot

Grapes are sourced from the wild, rugged landscape of Pays Cathare that surrounds the towns of Carcassonne and Limoux with its argilo–calcaire soils. One of the great advantages of the region is that it benefits from enviable geographic and climatic conditions, the warm Mediterranean sunshine is tempered by the altitude and the cooler nights so characteristic of the foothills of the Pyrenees. 75% hand-picked/25% by machine this wine has been vinified in large, old oak barrels.

SELON LETANG CINSAULT 2020
Bottle Shot

“Delicat et Croquant” (delicate and crunchy) is how winemaker Guillaume Letang likes to describe this 100% Cinsault. We’ve been looking at Cinsault bottlings for a while now, searching in particular for one vinified in a light, fresh, ‘chilled red’ style and the Selon Letang is exactly that, just 12% alcohol. Sourced from the village of Saint George d’Orques near Montpellier at the start of the Languedoc. Cinsault traditionally has been part of blended reds such as Minervois and Corbieres, adding perfume plus it’s a thin skin/low tannic grape, perfect for rose and light bodied reds.

Unoaked, vibrant redcurrant, raspberry & tart cherry fruit with a wild, delicately tannic herbaceous edge. If you are looking for alternatives to Pinot Noir or Gamay for a delicate red this is worth looking at.
